Professional dental cleanings are a vital part of good overall health. During your professional cleaning, your hygienist will take dental x-rays, remove plaque buildup, and thoroughly clean your teeth. Then your dentist will do a full mouth evaluation and see if any dental problems are on the rise. Dr. Leeson will then discuss the recommended treatment options if necessary.

Dental cleanings for kids

At 4th Street Family Dentistry, we understand that visiting the dentist for the first time can be a little nerve-wracking, especially for a child. Rest assured, our team has years of experience in family dentistry and we are committed to providing all of our patients the best services possible. The American Dental Association recommends bringing your child in for their first dental exam around the ages 6 months up to a year. After the initial visit, we recommend scheduling a dental cleaning every six months to ensure optimal oral health.

fluoride

Fluoride is a mineral used to support tooth enamel and prevent cavities. Many dental offices offer professional fluoride treatments to their patients. Both children and adults can benefit from using fluoride. Particularly, those that are prone to cavities or have sensitive teeth. We recommend consulting with your St. Petersburg dentist if you have questions about your child incorporating fluoride in their oral health routine. 

Preventative dental care

Teeth can last a lifetime if you take care of them correctly! If you follow a preventative dental care routine, you won’t have to worry about your teeth falling out when you’re older. Professionals recommend that you brush at least twice a day, floss, and attend routine dental exams every six months to prevent cavities and tooth decay.
